PEDIATRIC BURNS
IN A YOUNG CHILD AFTER A SCALD BURN ACCIDENT
On December 7, 2023, Ruby – a young child living in Long An Province – suffered a scald burn caused by boiling water on the facial area, one of the most sensitive regions and one that often carries a high risk of long-term complications. At less than two years old, her skin was extremely delicate and vulnerable, requiring careful wound management while also preserving the child’s comfort and emotional well-being.
Instead of undergoing aggressive or invasive interventions, Ruby’s family was guided toward a gentle home-based care approach. The treatment consisted of applying a biological gel formulated with DKD’s phospholipid-based excipient technology. This method focused on protecting the fragile skin barrier while allowing the natural healing process to proceed with minimal discomfort for the child.
Simple care – effective recovery
From the first day, the family followed a simple routine: gentle cleansing with physiological saline followed by direct topical application of the gel twice daily. No additional medications such as antibiotics, analgesics, or corticosteroids were required. The gel was used as a standalone treatment and still produced noticeable improvements. The child maintained a normal appetite, slept well, and remained calm without persistent discomfort. Importantly, there were no signs of infection or prolonged inflammation.
After only one or two applications, the child appeared noticeably more comfortable. By the third day, the burned area began to dry, forming a protective crust while new skin gradually regenerated underneath. The care routine remained simple and gentle, requiring approximately 1 ml of gel per day without the need for complex dressings.
Clear outcomes – no visible scarring
After 7–10 days, the wound had completely healed. The skin appeared smooth and evenly pigmented, without scar formation or pigment alteration. More importantly, the child did not experience prolonged pain or psychological stress during treatment.
- No prolonged isolation or hospitalization
- No heavy caregiving burden placed on family members
- No negative impact on the child’s psychological or motor development
